Accelerated Recovery Performance (ARP) Therapy

Introduction:  The ARP unit is a electrical stimulation device that possesses specific characteristics that are unlike any other conventional therapeutic neuromuscular electrical stimulators (microcurrent, interferrential, galvanic, Russian Stim. and iontophoresis).  The ARP uses direct current (DC) compounded with high frequency double exponential, patented background waveform.  This background waveform is harmonious with the body and allows the current to pass through the skin and fatty tissue more easily so it can reach deep inside the muscle.  Also, the unique waveform produces little inhibitory protective muscle contractions to allow for full range of motion while the current is being applied.  This permites eccentric (lengthening) contractions to occur which are critical to treatment.

The Effects:  The therapeutic effects that the ARP supplies are the following:

1.  Increased bloodflow to the affected region to stimulate tissue healing

2.  Concentric and Eccentric lengthening of the affected muscle to decrease inflammation and stretch the tissue.

3.  Helps break up scar tissue (if present) in the affected area

4.  The range of motion activities performed while utilizing the ARP increases the pumping action of the muscle to further decrease inflammation.

5.  Contracts muscles at 500 reps/second to strengthen and prevent disuse atrophy (muscle wasting).  Excellent for decreasing post surgical muscle atrophy.

6.  Eliminates compensation patterns such as limping and muscle guarding.

What to Expect:  The ARP has 2 freely moveable black and red pads extending from it.  The first thing we do is find exactly where your problem is by scanning the affected and surrounding tissues.  We use a low setting when first scanning because we are not sure how much inflammation or tissue damage there is.  When we scan across the area that has the most inflammation, scar tissue, or tissue damage the intensity will increase.  We will then scan with the other pad until we find another area of increased intensity or when the other pad increases even more.  We then strap the pads onto the area so they are unable to slide around.  We then turn up the intensity to the patient's tolerance and go through a series of range of motion exercises to further create the effects mentioned above.  Due to the amount of repetitions you will be performing (500 reps/sec for 15 minutes = 450,000 reps) we encourage you to eat at least 20 grams of protein after ARPing to replenish what you have lost.

* Tim Thomas (World Champion Boston Bruin Goalie) wins the Vezina Award (NHL's best goaltender) and personally thanks the ARP!
